Sara's Harmony Way is home to Indiana's first bier, Harmonie, which was established in 1816. Many people deserve credit for bringing "Indiana's first beer" back to New Harmony. Douglas A. Wissing discovered this recipie in the archives of the Old Economy Historic Site in Pennsylvania. The Germans of the Harmonie Society were Indiana's first significant brewers beginning in 1816. The beer was a staple for the Harmonist. It must have been a good beet: An educated German, Ferdinand Ernst stopped in New Harmony during his journey through the frontier region. "They served me a stein of beer" Ernst wrote " And I was not a little astonished to find here a genuine real Bamberg Beer" He gushed that the Harmonists "Must be the happiest people of entire Christandom"
